Summer of 69...

Connect

What is it about summer? Every year around this time I find myself wandering around outside in the sunlight - something we don't get here in Chicago for about 6 months out of the year - and I'm filled with all sorts of ambitions and dreams about the next three months.

Am I the only one?

I don't think so. At least Bryan Adams felt some of the same youthful, wistful feelings around summer as recorded in his hit song, The Summer of '69.

Just check out Adams' lyrics...

I got my first real six-string
Bought it at the five-and-dime
Played it 'til my fingers bled
Was the summer of '69

Me and some guys from school
Had a band and we tried real hard.
Jimmy quit, Jody got married
I should've known we'd never get far

Oh, when I look back now
That summer seemed to last forever
And if I had the choice
Yeah, I'd always wanna be there
Those were the best days of my life

Man, I'm in my forties, got kids, a wife and a mortgage and even I'm ready pick up my guitar and rock n roll with my friends.

Even though the summer of 69 is long gone, and we don't get the summers of yesteryear back, we do get THIS summer.

The Summer of '26.

And what will you do with it? Will you sit around listening to old hits like Adams' or will you get your guitar out and finally learn to play your heart out?

What's that? Been down that road before? Didn't get far? Well, maybe that wasn't all your fault. Maybe it was the method... maybe you started trying to ride bareback when you had never been on a horse before. Maybe you started at a level 12 boss before you had even played the game before. Maybe you tried running before you could walk.

That's what my students have found. It's a whole lot easier to run with the traditional methods after you've learned to walk with our stupid simple method.

What if this summer, the summer of'26, was the summer you got all the motor skills, muscle memory and callouses you needed to start your own garage band in the Fall? Sound crazy? It's really not. No one is too lost to pick up a guitar with our method and no one is too old to start a band... no one!

So if you're ready to make the summer '26 your summer then Reply to this email "Summer of 26" and I'll put you on my VIP Waitlist for our summer program which will open up later this month.

Don't let another summer pass by without finally rocking on that six string.

Jam soon,
JB

I got coffee with the Goo Goo Dolls Drummer on Monday
Earlier this week I met up with (former) drummer of the band, Goo Goo Dolls, Mike Malinin.  Mike recently moved to the Chicago area and was looking to connect with other artists so we sat down to talk music and life.  One of the things that surprise me was how down to earth the guy is - and I gotta say for an L.A. guy he pulled off the John Deere hat. As we were talking he asked me how my Close...
You don't know what you don't know... neither did he
I talked to a guy recently who was in his sixties, top of his career and miserable. He had no more mountains to climb, no new hills to take and everything felt pretty meaningless. So his wife bought him a guitar. He had never been musical, but she knew he liked listening to the old rock classics.  And something happened. He loved it. Every bit of it. The smell of the rosewood rubbing off on his...
Springsteen-Strength
In the summer of 1976, Bruce Springsteen was everywhere. His face was on the cover of Time and Newsweek in the same week — a feat no rock musician had pulled off before. Born to Run had made him a phenomenon. The world was waiting to see what he'd do next. Then, almost overnight, everything stopped. A legal dispute with his manager Mike Appel over the direction of his career had been building f...
