Paul McCartney rode how many buses just to learn a B7 chord?

It's hard to imagine, where today endless information is available in our pockets, a time when a beginner guitarist would need to travel hours on a city bus just to find a guy who, rumor had it, knew how to play a specific chord.

But, according to this 1990 interview, that's just what Paul McCartney did!

McCartney said, "We used to travel miles for a new chord-literally-in Liverpool. We used to take bus rides for hours to go visit the guy who reputedly knew B7. None of us knew how to finger it. He was like the guru. We went to his house, and we sat there, and he played it a few times. Then we all said, "Brilliant, thanks," and we went home and practiced it."

So if you've been struggling to learn a new chord recently, take heart, even rock n roll legends were once in your shoes... even if you didn't have to put your shoes on to learn it.

Doorknob Strumming (no more elbow soreness)
If you're like most beginner guitarists you started strumming like we all did - pumping that elbow fast and hard until it felt like your arm would fall off!Ā  I don't know why we do it, but if you don't learn a better way you'll be stuck at 120 bpm and the same few strum patterns for the rest of your life.Ā  So here's what I call the "doorknob strum" and it's as simple as it sounds.Ā  Instead of p...
