Happy 250th 🥳 (FREE lesson BORN IN THE USA 🇺🇸)

America is turning 250 years old tomorrow and it seemed fitting to give away a lesson on how to play Born In The USA by Springsteen. For all you American rock stars out there the weekend will likely be filled with barbecues, fireworks and (i hope) songs sung with friends.

Despite this song being written as a protest of the Vietnam War and how vets were treated in the 1980's it has become an anthem of patriotism.

While some will baulk at that idea, saying, "that's not what the Boss was trying to say at all!" I think it is fitting to be grateful for the land of your upbringing even while you call on your leaders to do the best job they can at upholding justice and promoting peace.

I am thankful for the United States of America, even though I recognize she is far from perfect - as are her leaders. But for average people like you and me, we can do better at loving our friends, family, even our enemies, and serving our neighbors (even those not born in the USA).

So this weekend sing it out, celebrate our nation's 250th bday, and invite all your neighbors out wherever they were born, whoever they voted for, because one thing we can all agree on is this - we all love this country.

Happy Fourth of July weekend.

Now go jam!

-J.B.

"Close your eyes and forget about the notes," I whispered.
have you ever had that thing happen where your head gets in the way? you're trying so hard to get it just right, just perfect that you end up stressed and with an anything-but-perfect outcome?  this happens all the time in music.  i remember recording my first full-length album years ago. it cost me all my savings at the time, but i had a dream to be a real songwriter and get my songs out into ...
My first snapped string (+ other reasons to play live)
I remember playing a show in Iowa. I had never heard of Ragbrai before, but you never forget performing for tens of thousands of bicyclists on a multi-day ride.  My friend was the star. I was there as second guitar and backup vocals. A local band was providing bass, drums and keys and I was supposed to keep them up to speed with the keys and the transitions so during the first song when one of ...
