Doorknob Strumming (no more elbow soreness)

Aug 12, 2026

If you're like most beginner guitarists you started strumming like we all did - pumping that elbow fast and hard until it felt like your arm would fall off!

I don't know why we do it, but if you don't learn a better way you'll be stuck at 120 bpm and the same few strum patterns for the rest of your life.

So here's what I call the "doorknob strum" and it's as simple as it sounds.

Instead of pumping your arm up and down to strum the strings, rotate your wrist like you're twisting a doorknob and brush those strings like you're the next Van Gogh.

I made a short video last year so you can get a feel for it here.

Let me know how it changes your playing.

Jam soon,

J.B.

PS - we'll be opening our Closet Rockstars Club to the public soon including our 90-Day Guitar Sprint course and pro coaching so keep your eyes peeled for details šŸ‘€
