5 Steps to Playing Guitar Fast

Hello there, guitar enthusiasts! Welcome to this edition of Join the Jam where I'll be sharing the 5 steps to fast track your guitar journey. Whatever your aspirations, everyone has to start somewhere yet starting is often the hardest part! So let's get to it.

1. Guitar Choice

Hopefully this is obvious - in order to play the guitar you need access to a guitar. For some reason most of us started on steel string acoustics... which are the hardest guitars to play by far. So do yourself a favor and get a nylon string guitar like this one or start on an electric guitar... your fingers, hands and forearms will thank you. And hey, you can always graduate to steel strings after those callouses and muscles are where they need to be!

2. Tuning

You've been told there's one way to tune your guitar, but it's not true. There are as many ways to tune your guitar as there are notes in the universe. The most important decision a beginner guitarist makes is choosing the right tuning because it sets the foundation for the rest of their musical journey. Thankfully, we've got that covered in our webinar, The Secret Behind The Method. Go check it out when you have a chance!

3. Coach

It's cliche for a reason: every player needs a coach. But not just any coach... please don't settle for just any coach. You don't need the guy or gal with the most degrees on the wall. You need a coach who has helped others where you are get to where you're trying to go. They should be trustworthy, telling you what you need to hear instead of what you want to hear. And they should be available to you daily. Why daily? Because it's 5-7 times faster than weekly... and you want to get playing fast right?

4. Community

You may think you can learn the guitar on your own, but history disagrees. All the great musicians and songwriters honed their craft in community. It's why some of the best learning you got in college happened outside of the classroom... not to mention some lessons learned! If you're looking to pick up the guitar faster and easier than ever then do yourself a favor and find a solid community to do it with!

5. Cost

There's no such thing as a free guitar lesson. I know YouTube has thousands and thousands of videos that you can literally spend all day scrolling through, but they still cost you something - time! Your time is precious and at the end of that day of scrolling you often end up more confused and unsure about what to do next. For some reason we all waste time freely, but when it comes to money we become quite conscientious. Isn't it ironic that spending money (which you can get more of) is a powerful motivator for not wasting time (which you can never get back). That's why I created The Closet Rockstar Course which cuts 3.5 years of lessons down to 3 months. Because time is more precious than gold.

6. Today

I know I said 5 Steps, but this Bonus Step is Crucial. I said it at the start - starting is often the hardest part. The most important step in guitar playing is starting... today. "Tomorrow" is the sidekick to the villanous "Never" and together they have stopped thousands of would-be guitarists by convincing them there's no hurry. But if you want to start, hurry you must! So jump in today and find out what you've been missing!

Jam soon,
JB

Why must you play the guitar?
Why must you play the guitar? When I ask folks over 50 this question, the answers usually sound like: “I’ve wanted to play since I was a kid.” “I don’t want to leave this world without finally doing it." “I want to play songs my wife / kids / grandkids recognize.” “It relaxes me after a long day.” "I'm getting an early jump against dementia"  “I just don’t want to feel ‘too old’ to learn someth...
Memorializing: v) preserve the memory of some one or thing
It's Memorial Day and if you have served in the military, first, thank you for your service and sacrifice. It is easy to forget that the freedoms we enjoy in this country came at a price and many are still paying that price today.  But what do we do on a day like this?  Visit the gravesite of lost loved ones, attend a service, watch a movie, listen to music that was meaningful way back when. Bu...
