The Hardest Part of Learning the Guitar? Look at Sisyphus!
Many people will tell you the hardest part of learning the guitar is deciding to start.
The logic goes something like this... the most energy spent in getting something moving is at the beginning, but once you get the ball rolling it will become easier to maintain.
But this thinking assumes a few things:
- That learning the guitar is like pushing a ball or riding a bike on a FLAT surface. But we all know that new things seldom feel flat, they feel steep!
- That there are no dips or ditches along the way. But we all know that life happens, injuries and illness occur, and the way is never obstacle-free.
- That everyone learns the guitar the same way. But if I've learned anything over 20 years of teaching it's that there are many ways to learn the guitar and some are much much better than others.
The truth is there are millions, yes millions, of people who have thought that if they just start, just go buy the guitar, just sign up for a couple lessons or watch a couple YouTube videos then it will be smooth sailing from there... who are now feeling regret that their guitar sits in a closet all day, or worse, at a pawn shop for sale.
SO... allow me to save you the frustration of becoming disillusioned by your guitar journey now. And let's look at Sisyphus. Yeah the Greek myth of a guy who was punished in the underworld by having to always roll a large boulder uphill only to see it roll back down again before reaching the peak. What can Sisyphus teach you about learning the guitar?
Well... a lot.
Imagine for a second if Sysiphus had not started his journey at the bottom of the hill but near the top. Like if he had had some sort of cheat code to begin his journey way ahead of the pack. Such that when he began his ascent he had a shorter distance to push, could have reached the peak within a few hours, and the rest of his journey could have been carried out DOWN hill instead of UP hill.
A crazy thing happens when you are going down hill instead of up hill... momentum.
And this is the key to learning the guitar.
If you have momentum on your side, every hill flies past, every bump and ditch are small hiccups, and the journey is a joy to traverse.
This is why I'm doing something CRAZY in December to give you MOMENTUM right out the gate. Like the champagne cork of the New Year's bottle we're gonna have all our January students flying from Day One in 2026.
But I can't tell you the secret to this 2026 Momentum yet.
For that you'll have to check out this link, learn what makes us literally one-of-a-kind in our approach and then if you're convinced we can jump on a call where you'll find the EXTRA 2026 Momentum I'm talking about.
But the time to act is now so that your January 2026 is fun and filled with music from your own two hands. Filled with the vibrations up against your very own chest. Finally rocking out to your favorite songs!
Check it out now and see for yourself!
Jam soon,
JB
