3 Benefits of a Guitar Summer Sprint?
If you're anything like me - you're not a fan of running for running's own sake. Don't get me wrong, I admire the flock of people at 6am hitting the pavement before anyone should be awake, but I'm more of a social competitor - balls help.
So what is a guitar summer sprint?
No, you're not going to have to run anywhere. But the concept of training for a very short distance (the goal of a sprint) gives some unique advantages to the budding guitarist.
- You have a set number of days on the calendar to focus on. Focus is probably the key factor in my most successful students. Can you keep you eyes on the prize for 90 days? If so, you'll be a guitarist come August.
- You have a limited number of songs and chords to perfect. How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time. A sprint helps you chew your food in manageable portions.
- You see results fast. Unlike a marathon where the finish line is somewhere miles and miles away, with a guitar sprint you can see the finish line the whole time and you can track your progress easily. Full chords? Check. Full songs? Check. Strumming? Check. Fingerpicking? Check. Timing and groove? Check.
